On Monday, April 3rd, L+M Development Partners along with partners, IMPACCT Brooklyn and Dunn Development, were awarded the Excellence in Housing Award at the 2017 Urban Land Institute (ULI) New York Annual Awards for Excellence in Development.

Located in the Fort Greene/Wallabout area of Brooklyn directly across from the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard, the development was built on a former navy prison site.

Courtyard space for the Navy Green apartment buildings

Prior to being awarded the opportunity to even begin construction on this mixed-use development, the process included creating a community task force, various stages of design and site planning, and incorporated a tremendous amount of input from the community and elected officials.  In essence, the final Navy Green design was a direct response to the community’s plan that took years in the making.

Now, there are 460 residential units across Navy Green’s mixed-use compound within the four apartment buildings and two townhouse sections. The development is distinctive for its inclusion of a 30,000 square foot courtyard connecting each component, providing green space accessible to all residents. This fosters a sense of community in the neighborhood.

The development is especially unique, however, for its composition offering a variety of residential options including both mixed-tenure (rental and condos available), and mixed-income (both affordable, market-rate apartments and townhouses). The inclusion of a wide range of people including the formerly homeless, with supportive housing, and new homeowners, is remarkable, and very much a testament to the community relationships which supported the completion of the innovative project.

The evening celebrated noteworthy real estate projects throughout New York, highlighting innovations in design and sustainability, commercial and institutional projects. See highlights of Navy Green and other nominees in the video below:

Congratulations to the Navy Green team and thank you all of your hard work!
